Icon TV Host Dick Clark Dies at age 82

Revised and Updated April 19th.

Some have said that the US dependence on Oil has been a longer running dependance for the US than any country's dependance on anything else.  According to one guy - - it's suicidal for an individual or a society to become so dependant on any one thing - - especially when that Thing is of a finite nature.  Since there was a time when we were "not comitted" to petroleum, there can come a time once more when we are again NOT comitted.  The same is true on the lives of people who one day "Find God".  If these oil companies really thought none of the other energy sources would "pan out' and eventually be able to solve our problems, why do they routinely attempt to buy up and otherwise kill-off all these new endeavors?  This is one question that Rush Limbaugh dares not answer.

Antonio Viragosa is making his "state of the City" right now on TV in Los Angeles.  I'm not sure how the local tea party set feels about 'Having a foreigner to rule as Mayor over us" because to hear them talk, - All of "Them" want to take the American Southwest back and make it again a part of Mexico which personally would be fine with me.  I'd probably be an improvement.  However there aren't that many tea baggers in LA county, I don't think. But seriously it's nice to have a politician who's a little progressive that's still around.  And also the Police Chief we have now is pretty good in having done reforms of the LAPD.  Now Mayor Viragosa is regaliing us with all the positive economic events that have taken place in Los Angeles recently.  "No business tax for the first three years you're here"

Sometimes it pays to know which words are real, and when grammar matters.  Sometimes placement of negatives in a sentense matters.  Such as the line in First John in the Bible that goes "I do not say that you should Pray for such a man" (possibly a man who's comitted a murder)  Or you could argue for instance - there are not No options.  This is a misperception.  Some may quibble over such terms as "regardless" and irregardless" and that other one - - "loosen" verses "unloosen".  Some people will quibble over the proper use of "fewer" as opposed to "less".  Less refers to a singular, whereas "fewer" refers to multiple individual things.  The word NOT should properly be followed by the word AND rather than OR, as I fall into the trap of using.  People who computer logic will understand the distinction.  The term "unqualified" means "there are no exceptions" in pure logic.  The word "significant" doesn't not necessarily mean "a lot".  It's ANY number or quantity that's MEASURABLE, and so "significant savings" is not technically a lie.  The words "soul" and "ego" really refer to the same thing.  Both refer to the "essence of Self".  "Psychic perception" doesn't necessarily allude to anything the least supernatural, but merely to "how the Mind works".  The expression 'More completely" actually weakens the absolute nature of the term "complete".  Some gramarians complain about the expression of "Where are you AT" but to me the word "At" is quite proper as a descriptional pre-decedent preposition.  Numbers can be a problem for the illiterate.  For instance people talking about having Major bucks in various way.  They may say "That guy has X ammount of money to burn".  Or you could say - "That man has a gezillion dollars" or "That man has a quintillion ways to dispose of his money now".  Two of these refer to real numbers.  One of them is a made up termanology.  Can you find it?  "X ammount" is a perfectly acceptable computer term.  Even a variable with no tracable value in a Program - - will most likely default to zero, and I'd consider "Nothing" a specific ammount.  And finally the word "Quintillion" is a real word, and it means of course a Million Trillion dollars.  By the way saying "a million trillion dollars" is also perfectly acceptable.  Some people may employ words with their own "pet meanings" and I often resort to this sort of device or "author's code" myself.  For instance to a Utilitarian- - the word "Rational" or "Rationalization" may take on a whole other meaning- - one of scrupulus fairness and even-handed distribution of scarce resources equally.

The Judge in the Zimmerman shooting case recuised themselves today because of some legal technical conflict of interest" like showing random photos of OJ's hands during the trial threatening to pull the plug on TV coverage.  Also we are informed that the afidavid or whatever- - puts out a very "thin case" to prosecute.  Let's hope and pray the Prosecutor has a lot of dirt up her sleeves she isn't choosing to reveal right now.  But I don't mind tell you I'm worried.  After all it's what "They" said would happen.  People like Rush Limbaugh.  If we let this one slip through our fingers justice is gone in America.  I'm not going to say there'll be massive riots in America or anything - - - but it has happened before, as we are coming up on one of those 20th Anniversary reminders of this that here in LA.

Dick Clark died. He was suffering from a stroke for years and today he finally had a heart attack on top of that.  Dick Clark was 82.  That would make him five years younger than my Dad, and means he achieved fame at a really young age.  But he became "the world's oldest teenager".  Of course American Bandstand originated from Philidelphia.  I'm told the only two Rockers never to be allowed to appear on his show were Ricky Nelson and Elvis Presley.  They say that even a "coontraversial artist" had a mantle of wholesome respectability - - if Dick Clark introduced him.  What we all really ought to know is where Dick Clark will wind up in his afterlife.  Anyhow it's sad to see all the icons of our Youth fall like this.  Of course his theme song was kind of a Swing Era anachronism.  The show used to sign off right before the Mickey Mouse Club came on.  That's when I was only five.  I just remember thinking as a kid that even for teenagers - - all those dancers looked really old.  You're used to seeing older people doing 'fifties and 'sixties Rock retrospectives they feature on Time-Life records.  When they start featuring old grungers on TV you'll know you really are getting old.  OK.  Apparently now they say that Ryan Seacrest has inhereted his "mantle"   They claim that "American Bandstand" didn't air on the ABC network till the fall of 1957.  I believe it was sooner than that.

Some statements are in fact logical although we may not like them.  For instance "I would rather be convicted by twelve than burried by six".  Another guideline could be "The extent to which one seeks to back off from risks to his Life - - is inverse to the extent that the Cause he's fighting for is bigger than he is and will in fact, outlive him.  One may say that one for one, tit for tat retrobution - - bruise for bruise - - tooth for tooth - - life for life - - is a nutty one.  But another would merely say "Well any punishment that fits the crime is inherently the fairest".  Mercy and forgiveness per see are not a cardinal Virtue, and is not among the seven on my list.  Mercy is less a pure virtue than "Venture Capital".  The upside is that the Soul of the wicked one will increase in capital value and the investment profit will accrew to You.  The downside is that- - - pouring mercy on an agenda is like dousing electric wiring with water.  The damage you do will be far beyond what you can even imagine. (Selah)  In an equitable world - - a 'bad investment" in Mercy ought to (and does) devalue an Individuals "moral capital".  Many may consider "factors" when they trust somebody - even a Preacher.  In alligence to the true definition of the word- - if ANY factor in the chain is false and ends up wiping you out- - then the entire chain of logic you used to justify your Faith in him, her, or it- - becomes worthless.  In the spirit of Dr. Levy's talk of Monday in the pursuit of "de-familiarization" I prefer the words "Allow" and 'Allowance" rather than the terms "Mercy" and "Forgiveness".  Because the word "Allow" conotates the idea that we are in fact Sovreign over certain things such as being "allowed" to drive trucks on your parent's own farm property.  You may choose to "Allow" things based on a "Judgement" call that is in fact something that it's you're Right to Make.  Such "Judgement Calls" per se are morally neutral.  Another cardinal virtue comes into play in such cases and that is "Prudence".  But many - - Catholic Priests being the worst offenders - - forgive things that are in first place more properly called "Transgressions" but in fact are not against THEM so that it is not even Their Place to either forgive or centure.  Think about it.
